LYMINGTON BOWLING CLUB 'WHATMORE' OPEN DAY
Sunday 22nd July saw beautiful blue sky and warm temperatures for Lymington's Whatmore Mixed Pairs Open Day which was sponsored by Burkmar Estate Agents.Twenty four pairs from clubs in the New Forest and District Leagues competed for the Whatmore Cup; twelve pairs from Brockenhurst, Downton, Fordingbridge, Highcliffe, Iford Bridge, Totton & Eling and Waterside and twelve home pairs were the competitors. Each pair played three games of seven ends and the top 8 progressed to the knockout quarter finals and then four to the semi finals. The competition concluding with two pairs from Lymington winning through to the final, these being Joan Geddes and Anthony Clarkson playing Ann Norris and John Kitcher. In a keenly fought final Joan and Anthony opened up 6 - 1 lead by the fourth end but on the fifth end Ann & John got 4 shots back followed by another on the sixth end; this left the pairs level going into the last end. With the lead changing hand on a couple occasions Joan and Anthony held the winning shot at the end of the match and were therefore crowned as this year’s Whatmore Open Pair’s Champions.Congratulations to the finalists and many thanks to the organisers Joyce and Ken Streek, many others who manned to bar, prepared refreshments and Burkmar Estate Agents for their sponsorship.
